I’m very much still learning how to use graphic design programs. However, as a student, I’ve recently completed two courses surrounding illustration, typography, and composition. Here are a few of my favorite projects from my Fall 2020 design classes at American!

Graphic Design 210- Typography I: Visible Language

Publication Design: this project was a combination of research, writing, and design where we were tasked with creating a small publication. The content for the booklet was up to us, and I chose to research one of my favorite textiles, Toil du Jouy. Having grown up in a home filled with the bucolic patterns spread throughout the house (my Mom, an interior designer, had—and still does; she passed it on to me as well— an affinity for Laura Ashley designs, having worked there for much of her early career), I was always curious as to how the print came about, and the stories behind the scenes artists chose to depict in their prints.

Below are a few screen-grabs. The final book is yet to be complete, but it definitely displays the appreciation I formed for the classic Adobe Garamond font throughout my first typography course.

Graphic Design 270- Visual Communication Design

Project 1: Collage, Photomontage, Photoshop

This is the first of two images we were tasked to create surrounding the topic of contrasting themes. I chose to combine themes relating to climate and art by showcasing two great female American artists; Georgia O’keffee and Mary Cassat, in the collages featuring imagery I felt evoked their personal styles and environments. I used a combination of my own photographs, as well as collected paintings, images, and textures to create the collages in Adobe Photoshop.

Project 2: How-to Infographic

In this project, we were asked to create an infographic. I decided to share a “how-to,” describing the process of making my favorite style of buttercream, swiss meringue. I used a combination of my own photography and illustrations. The font used is Adobe Garamond. This was made using Adobe Illustrator.
